Alumni . The Master Series
The CIA Master Series represents videos of alumni who are not just accomplished professionals in their field, but individuals who have helped define their fields. Their artwork is known throughout the world, and now through these videos you can meet the artists themselves.
Professor Emerita Franny Taft, who was the special honoree at the 2013 Cleveland Arts Prize 53rd Annual Awards event, influenced generations of artists by teaching at CIA for an astounding 62 years.
John Paul Miller, a 1940 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art and longtime faculty member, discussed his more than 60 years as a renowned goldsmith who created extraordinary work using an ancient technique of gold granulation. John Paul Miller died quietly at his home south of Cleveland in early March, 2013 at age 94.
Stanczak, a 1954 CIA graduate and 30-year-plus CIA faculty member, is a true master colorist who produced non-referential, abstract art for 60 years. His work resides in museums around the world, including Museum of Modern Art, New York, Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
Ed Mieczkowski has long been considered a founding member of the hard-edged, geometric abstraction movement Anomia in the early 1960s. He follows a rigorous, self-imposed program of painting exercise to explore the effects color on visual perception. He is a 1957 CIA graduate and served as a faculty member for nearly 40 years. His work is in the collections of museums of several international museums, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art and museums in Poland and Denmark.
