Paul Newman passed away just a couple of months ago. The Cinematheque tried for years to get the Cleveland native to come back home so we could properly honor him. This Saturday the Cinematheque will play two studio archive, 35mm prints of his most famous role, "Fast Eddie" Felson from the 1961 film, THE HUSTLER and in the sequel, THE COLOR OF MONEY, the Martin Scorsese 1986 helmed film co-starring Tom Cruise. Newman won his only acting Oscar in the sequel. It may be a small way to honor the great actor and philanthropist, but it is the best way, watching a great craftsman in his most memorable role. Two Soviet films from our Another Soviet Cinema series play Thursday. THE RUSSIAN QUESTION from 1947, a Cold War classic and CARNIVAL NIGHT, a holiday favorite from 1956. This weekend we'll show the Cleveland premiere ofBEAUTIFUL LOSERS, a fond look back at NYC's beloved Alleged Gallery and the outsider artists who affiliated themselves with this early 1990's skatepunk, graffiti, nerdy haven. POULTRYGEIST: NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD , the latest from cinema horror-schlock kingpin Lloyd Kaufman returns by popular demand! MAN ON WIRE, one of the most acclaimed movies of 2008 about French high-wire artist Phillippe Petit who danced on a wire between the World Trace Center complex in 1974 plays on Saturday & Sunday.
