Continuing Education . Pre-College Interior Architecture
Have you ever thought about why stores, restaurants, hotels, libraries, hospitals, homes, and just about any built space look and function the way they do? Designers made choices to create these spaces, and you can too.
This course will teach you the elements, principles, and theory of interior architecture as applied to residential and commercial interior environments. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on studio projects, you will learn the general process of interior design, and will be introduced to the basic principles of architecture. We will explore the fundamentals of design and space planning, as well as basic skills and techniques of both visual and oral presentations. These skills will include drafting, rendering, perspective drawing, material selections and critiques, and will be used to develop projects of your choice. Throughout this two-week course you will be encouraged to develop imaginative, responsible design solutions to problems created by the physical limitations of the built environment.
Michael A. Gollini Jr. is Associate Professor and Chair of Interior Architecture at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He has spent 28 years as an independent design consultant for several local and national design offices, providing conceptual and strategic imagery for retail, restaurant, museum, and exhibit environments. In 1988, Michael co-wrote CIA’s Interior Design curriculum with Alex F. Sekely and began teaching architectural illustration. Having several years experience in trade show design, Michael also began teaching exhibition design. He became Department Chair for the Interior Design Department in 1998 and again revised the department curriculum, adding a major retail emphasis and establishing the first professional partnership with Interbrand Design Forum in Dayton, Ohio. Michael continues to participate as part of a team or as a team leader on a variety of projects nationally and internationally. His client list includes: Walt Disney World, Ridge Tool, Krystal, Stanley Black & Decker brands, Quaker Steak & Lube, IHOP, Bob Evans, BMW, Cisco, and Ducati.
