Wurm is a generative art app. For those unfamiliar with generative art, it is the method of using algorithmic processes to create a work. For those unfamiliar with algorithms, they’re math. Generative art is a cool topic all on its own, but let’s see how Tireless Weaver (the handle of Toronto based digital artist Anna Oguienko) makes Wurm work, and what it manages to bring to the table of generative art, and the table of Ipad apps.

So you see, it’s pretty sweet, looks fun, and fairly simple. There are a few basic brush shapes that you can customize, some color palettes that you can customize, and then just go to town on the screen. The multi-touch feature is what truly stands out about this app. You can use all of your fingers, even both hands if you turn off multitasking gestures in the settings menu. It’s like finger painting with math!

Wurm has a utility for mac that allows you to obtain high resolution PNG images of your wurm creations, for prints, swag, whatever your heart desires. There is also a version for babies called Wurm jr that has less customizable content, cuter brushes and brighter colors.

Altogether, Wurm is a fun little tool that is both entertaining and inspirational. Definitely worth a look.
