Recently, all Foundation Digital students were given an assignment to create frame-by-frame animations on the iPad. The animation is limited to black and white line art. It starts and ends with a straight line, so that the animations can be edited seamlessly together into one big animation.
I put together a “best of” reel to showcase some of the students work, shown here. In the meantime, iTunes cards will be awarded to the best class and the best individual, as selected by our judges, Professors Jimmy Kuehnle, Barbara Chira and Richard Fiorelli. They now have access to all the files and we expect to announce the winners in about two weeks.
In a related subject, students used Flip Boom Draw to create the animations. Unfortunately, several students had issues with Flip Boom Draw crashing and as of this date, no update has been issued to correct the issues. Despite these obstacles, students created some awesome work! If any student wants to continue making frame-by-frame animations on their iPads, we recommend Animation Creator HD. While we were in the midst of this project, Animation Creator HD issued an update that simplified the interface and aded new features. It is very stable and full featured. With this update, we feel comfortable recommending Animation Creator HD ($1.99). There is also a free Animation Creator HD Lite which you could download to try out the interface.
We’ll follow up by announcing the winners in about two weeks!
