Visiting Artist Jesse Louis-Rosenberg

We were proud to welcome Foundation visiting artist  Jesse Louis-Rosenberg to CIA. As part of CIA’s lunch on Fridays Lecture Series, Jesse spoke about his love of math (!), integrating the digital and physical worlds and the mobile future of technology. All of these are topics that are near and dear to those of us working with the Digital Canvas Initiative, of course, and it was exciting to hear his perspective. Jesse, along with Jessica Rosenkrantz, are the creative forces behind Nervous System, a generative design studio that (to quote from their website) works at the intersection of science, art, and technology. They create using a process that employs computer simulation to generate designs and digital fabrication to realize products. Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena, they write computer programs based on processes and patterns found in nature and use those programs to create unique and affordable art, jewelry, and housewares.

Their iPad app “Cell Cycle”, allows individuals to “co-create” personalized, unique jewelry designs. You can see a video demo of their iPad App, along with examples of their work, on this earlier post by Amber Luning.
