The Elements of Style, written by Prof. William Strunk, Jr. at Cornell University in 1919, was designed to provide students with an easy to understand writing course. He believed that there needed to be a way for students to learn that went further than just lessons in class and hand written notes. He needed a tangible tool that his students could take home that was exactly what he was teaching in his English class. This idea gave birth to “Elements of Style” in 1919. This short book contains topics such as…
- composition
- punctuation
- spelling
- commonly misused words
- and exercises to test yourself on what you read and understand in the book.
In 1923, the copyright on this piece of literature ran out, making the unabridged version of this book available in the iTunes Store for free.
