Spend a lunch hour learning about the latest in art and design during these Friday lectures. Each lecture features a variety of artists and designers from around the world, including CIA faculty and visiting artists.
Auerbach-Brown will delve deeply into the multi-layered experience of listening to sound. Comparing this process to that of peeling an onion, he will ask audience members to hear and identify various aspects of a handful of disparate and mysterious noises, then "peel away" the layers of sound to demonstrate how these can be interpreted, refashioned, or put in differing contexts, thus giving new meanings to the listener. There are many parallels between this process and similar ideas in visual art—identifying figures and objects, juxtaposing visual cues in unexpected ways, observing the interactions of colors in differing contexts, as examples—and this presentation will ultimately highlight these parallels while hopefully giving audience members a broader understanding of the wonderful world of sound.
This event is free and open to the public. Pizza and beverages will be provided. Click here to read more about the Lunch On Fridays series.
