Illustration Department received new studio furniture this year
Professor Dominic Scibilia hates to see waste. So when it came time to clear out a set of more than 40 drafting tables, chairs and lamps from storage at CIA, the Illustration Department Chair knew he had to find a new home for this used – but still very usable – furniture.
He found it in the Euclid (Ohio) City School District, which last week carted the furniture away for use by its high school students.
“This furniture will definitely be used by our students and it’s going to benefit them so much,” said a grateful Pat Higley, the district’s business manager. “It’s just a much appreciated donation. It’ll go to good use.”
Higley said industrial arts students at Euclid High School will repaint and refurbish the furniture. That added level of student involvement makes Scibilia particularly happy.
“I’m really glad, truly, that the drawing boards will be put to good use and appreciated by the Euclid schools,” he said.
CIA’s Illustration majors this year received new, high-tech furniture – including task lights and adjustable tables that are lit from beneath – similar to the equipment they will use in professional studio settings. Click here for a look at the new workstations.
