CIA grad's iconic monument to be rededicated

Marshall Frederick created Cleveland landmark 50 years ago

CIA grad's iconic monument to be rededicated

A Cleveland landmark created by CIA graduate Marshall Fredericks ’30 will be rededicated at noon on July 25 in honor of its fiftieth anniversary.

The iconic Greater Cleveland Veterans Memorial is on Veterans' Memorial Plaza in downtown Cleveland. When the piece was dedicated in 1964, Fredericks said the 46-foot tall human figure surrounded by fountains represents the "spirit of mankind rising out of the encircling flames of war, pestilence and the destructive elements of life, and reaching out for new elements of life. Man rising above death, reaching upward to his God and toward Peace."

A prolific sculptor, Fredericks was also a generous supporter of CIA until his death in 1998.

Read The Plain Dealer article about the rededication and the new names of war dead to be added to the memorial here.
