CIA Hosts 33rd Scholastic Art Awards + Exhibit

The annual Scholastic Art Competition + Exhibition (January 14 to February 2) recognizes creative achievement in Cuyahoga County students.

Starting January 14, the work of northeast Ohio’s most talented art and design students will be on display at the 2012 Scholastic Art Competition + Exhibition – Cuyahoga County Region, a celebration of the artistic talent of local teenagers.

More than 500 award-winning works of art from seventh- to twelfth-grade students at 60 local schools will be on view at the Institute’s Reinberger Galleries from Monday, January 14 through Saturday, February 2.

For 33 years, the Institute has hosted the Scholastic Art Competition to recognize creative achievement in area students, grades 7–12. A panel of local professional artists and art educators was organized by the Institute to jury the exhibit and select the awarded pieces from nearly 2,100 entries.

The young artists compete for cash prizes, medals and scholarships. Students who receive Portfolio Awards and Gold Key Awards will continue to the national competition held in the spring in New York City. Past winners of the national competition include Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Andy Warhol and Sylvia Plath.
