New CIA building taking shape; set for December completion

Productive grad reflects on his creative career and CIA education.
George Kozmon ’82, the internationally collected artist who created a brilliant alpine landscape in real time at Cleveland’s 2013 Ingenuity Fest, is the subject of a new film by videographer Jeff Mancinetti ’09.
In it, Kozmon talks about his 30-year career, his various bodies of work, the media he uses, and some recent projects, including a commission early in 2013 to create 12 paintings for The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal in the United Arab Emirates.
“My work has always been generally representational, but within that representation, I like to play,” he said. At Ingenuity Fest, visitors were able to watch Kozmon play as he created, describing his process and answering questions over the three days of the event. The finished landscape was an eight-foot by 80-foot-long canvas.
Kozmon also speaks at length about what he gained from his CIA education. “It’s a great place to grow, and learn, and define your identity as a creative person,” he said. “The professors were engaged with your growth as a person, as an artist… You still hear some of the professors’ statements reverberating in the back of your head; you apply them in your daily practice of art making.”
Kozmon also teaches, lectures, curates exhibitions, and is director of the annual Cain Park Fine Arts Festival in Cleveland Heights.
