Student Life . Housing . Off-Campus Housing

Off-Campus Housing

After your first year, you can remain on campus and live in our on-campus apartments or move off campus to any of the nearby neighborhoods. You might find an apartment above the storefronts of Little Italy, built a hundred years ago by Italian artisans whose grandchildren still run authentic bakeries. Or you might commute by bike from Coventry Village, where funky shops and restaurants draw a diverse crowd from hippies to hipsters.

There are a few ways that the Office of Student Life and Housing can help you find new living arrangements.

Apartment hunting seminar

In early March, the Office of Student Life and Housing conducts a seminar for freshmen to help you understand leases, landlords, expenses, and what to look for in selecting your living situation for your sophomore year. Take a look at the Apartment Hunting Basics and Apartment Hunting Checklist forms from that session.

On-Campus apartments

Located across the street from our campus, the newly renovated apartments on E115th offer a convenient and comfortable home for upper-class students. Configured as 1-bedroom singles, 1-bedroom doubles, and 2-bedroom triples, these fully-furnished apartments offer amenities such as wireless Internet, full kitchens, living rooms, central air, and ample storage space in either 10-month or 12-month leasing options. Click here for a layout of a typical floor.

Additionally, the apartments have a common lounge area where students can meet for group projects in the conference room, use the quiet study area, sit at the technology counter to surf the web, or watch their favorite show.

Before spring break, current apartment residents have an opportunity to sign leases for the following school year. After this time, all other students have an opportunity to select apartments through the room draw process. Once room draw is complete, there may be spaces available. Please contact the Office of Student Life and Housing for details and availability.

Recovery House

Recovery House is an alternative housing option that is available for CIA students who want to maintain a clean and sober lifestyle. Recovery House assists resident students in developing healthy life skills while remaining free of alcohol and other drugs. It is a two-unit apartment house for six residents and a graduate resident director located in the South Residential Village. Resident students develop an individualized plan for continued sobriety along with personal health objectives. Participants are encouraged to assist each other in creating a safe and supportive place to live. Recovery House is a cooperative effort of the Office of Housing, The Collegiate Behavioral Health Advisory Council, University Counseling Services, Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, and the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center.

Apartment listings

The Office of Student Life and Housing coordinates with Case Western Reserve University to maintain a list of available apartments near campus. You can also stop by the Student Life and Housing office—outside our door is a bulletin board where potential roommates and landlords can post vacancies.
